What to Expect as the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Ends

As of May 11, 2023, the federal government officially ended the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Vaccinations, testing and treatment will still be accessible. However, member coverage will revert to the standard benefits under our plan now that the public health emergency has ended.

The Compass Rose Health Plan's Coverage for COVID-19 Care

Changes to coverage depend on your plan enrollment. The details below apply to the high-option Compass Rose Health Plan. Visit retiree.uhc.com/CompassRose for Compass Rose Medicare Advantage coverage details.

Members will continue to receive:

  • Unlimited free telehealth visits through a network primacy care provider and Doctor On Demand
  • COVID-19 vaccines at no cost when using a network provider
  • In-network, provider ordered COVID lab tests at no cost when using LabCorp or Quest
  • COVID-19 treatment will be covered under the plan benefits as outlined in the FEHB Plan Brochure. Plan copayments will apply to pharmacy drugs and hospital stays

Care and coverage that’s changing:

  • Members can order a 30-day supply of COVID tests (eight tests every 30 days) through their pharmacy benefit. Applicable pharmacy co-pay applies.
  • The Plan will not cover fees for members as part of a surveillance test. COVID surveillance testing is developed by a State Public Health Department to randomly select and sample 1% of all individuals in a city on a rolling basis to determine local infection rates and trends.1

How to Protect Yourself and Your Loved Ones

Even though the public health emergency has ended, it is important to remain diligent when you are feeling ill. Isolate at home, wash your hands and get tested if you think you have COVID-19. People who are up to date on COVID-19 vaccines are less likely to experience severe symptoms and less likely to spread the disease.2
